“Don’t ever forget that it is best to listen much, speak little, and not become angry,” James 1:19

Most people enjoy talking, but when we talk too much and listen too little, we communicate to others that we think our ideas are more important than theirs. There is wisdom in letting the other person do the majority of the talking and you simply facilitate by asking more questions, learning all you can about that individual, their life and interests. James advices us to stay on this reverse form of conversation, keeping track of how much you talk and how much you actually listen. You can certainly learn more about the other person and their situation in life, by listening.

God, give us the selflessness to hear others and listen to their needs, rather than prioritizing our own. Amen
